Idea


Had an idea for turret based weapons. What do you think they would fall under big guns category but, be much bigger.

1. a huge gun that shoots sharpened garbage can lids.
2. old WWII anti-aircraft guns
3. huge mounded gatling laser
4. huge mounded 50 Cal. machine gun

Player's Guide Progress Report

Well, girls and boys, I have finished the first two parts of the player's guide, dealing with SPECIAL stats and skills.  Once I get the first tier of perks done and a short bit about combat, I'll...have to figure out how and where to host the file, or I'll email it.

It's taking more than an hour, not because it's so long and/or complicated, but because I'm a perfectionist and I'm including images, too.  Sort of a lot of them.

So, anybody have anything planned for tonight/the weekend?  My daughter's sweet sixteen is including brunch (with my famous quiche), my Death-by-Chocolate cake and Cosmic bowling.  And, apparently, driving all over God's green earth to take pictures of her with scenic backdrops?  Interesting choice for a birthday, but hey, if it's what she wants...

I personally am going to try and make up a concept sketch for my character, like Josiah did, and I figured I'd let that be known. I'll scan it in once I feel it's decent.

I'm finally on season 4 of Enterprise. Be sad when this is over :(

Coffee Talk Tuesday

Okay, a couple noteworthy developments on the team-building front.  First, Katy said she is interested in doing lockpicking and hacking, which addresses a good technical skillset and doesn't overlap anyone else.  She also practically purred at the idea of bringing fiery death to the Core.  Very practical, and her face was a slightly disturbing combination of wonder and glee.

I talked to Betsy about her interests, and she would like to be a good communicator.  I imagine (from previous RPG experience) this means the gamut from simple persuasion to intimidation to seduction (however, we were interrupted in the conversation due to an impending raid).  And no, she doesn't get any bonuses on it because she's my wife.

Honestly, this really addresses the core (pardon the pun) needs of the group.  I like thinking about the group more in terms of what they do, who they are, rather than how or in what capacity they fight--though that's important, I have a feeling the game is going to involve much more than fighting, and in that respect, certainly, the group makeup is looking solid.

After dealing with this midterm week, I'll zero in on collating up our startup rules, so we can get this party started, hopefully during spring break.  Rather than doing a bunch of tables and trying to outline things for all the levels, I'll focus on the earliest part of the game initially.  Plenty of time to add later stuff later.

Ammo types:

1 Incendiary (burns the #$%Q through everything :D)
2 Anti-personnel (fragments on impact to target... so there's nothing to pull out)
3 Phosphorous (burns and lets off light as it flys through the air. helps in both tracking of the round and slight incend on target... though this does help the enemy see you better)
4 UV rounds that can be tracked via radio frequency if you want to keep tabs on a target.
5 Fusion round?
6 Depleted Uranium (explosive happy)
That's all i can think of.....

Secondly: I'm pretty open, my personal philosophy, is that no matter how dark... as long as there is a purpose that pushes the story and tugs at the old heart strings, I'm ok with it.

Callout from the Fallout, baby!

Input request!

1. I need info/ideas for real world ammo types.  Not caliber or anything, but actual types, like FMJ (full metal jacket), JHP (jacketed hollow point) and so on.  I imagine AP (armor piercing) is one I know, too. Are there other types?  How do they differ?  I plan to use FMJ as the "baseline" ammo type, no particular strengths or weaknesses.

2. How about more fantastic types, particularly inspired by video games?

3. Is there anything that you just DO NOT WANT in the game?  This can be exhausted tropes, particular creatures, or levels of graphic content.  Would it bother you beyond the scope of the game if your characters saw cannibals eating babies? Are you scared shitless of spiders and just wouldn't be able to handle them, even in the game?  Has something happened in your life that makes you wig out about a certain sort of crime or relationship or person? 

#3 is important because the whole point of a game is to have fun, and if I know something would make it not so for you, I won't inadvertently put it in.  If you would feel more comfortable telling me privately instead of in the comments (and it would go no further, on this you have my word), just email, text or call me.  I think everyone has my new phone number, yes?.

I too am able to access this beautiful blog

Yes, Chris, I am able to post to this blog... and I imagine, hopefully, the others will be able to as well. Hopefully we will all be able to collaborate and swap ideas via the web 2.0 :D

I have a few quick questions for Chris...

1: Is my harpoon concept viable? the smg laser pistol is supposed to fire in burst mode. The formal name is the Pila AEP7_M but I'm thinking a neat nickname could be the Pila Pain! Mwahahahahahah! Does anyone else have ideas/requests for custom weapons for this game? I'd gladly try to bring something together if it helps develop the atmosphere and give Chris an Idea of what we'd like to see.

2: You mentioned chonobos :P are there going to be any other influences carried over form FF?

3: A clarification: not necessarily batman... though that would be cool. But someone equally dark and resourceful.

4: In our discussion last week, you mentioned bringing up an heirloom concept. As our ancestors were relatively well off, we would have access to one heirloom of a relatively high value. I am just wondering if you will indeed include this in the game. It will affect the build of my character. Connected to this is a question of skills. You have stated that this is a classless system, so do the skills allow us to do some special actions that in other games the classes would create?

This is all for now. I just want everyone to know that I'm terribly excited and very much look forward to this. My virgin RPG experience :D

XB: For some reason I cannot comment, so I'll interject here.

1. It is viable, but I will need to determine how difficult it will be (which will determine when it will be happy to have it without being overwhelming and making things unfun).

2. Certainly, though more info will wait until I have had a chance to talk to our Ms. Katy.

4. I'm still contemplating the heirloom items. It may be a bit open, but they may need to be less directly rule-oriented than a weapon (for instance).  Haven't decided yet.

Going classless was intentional to reduce the need for and number of rules. We can always make it more complex if we decide we want it that way, of course, but too many rules tends to bog down creativity, and I want everyone to have a good start at this without having to worry so much about rules.  If things just aren't sexy enough without class-style powers etc, we can adapt on the fly.

Coffee Talk Thursday

Well, as I only came up with this idea last night, I imagine this'll be a short post.  If the banner there isn't animated, click on it.  If it still doesn't work, photobucket must be destroyed.  It's a classic I made a few years ago.

So, yesterday, as Katy did errands, the boys and I had coffee.  As Wikipedia syndrome affects all of us, it seems, our conversation went all over the place.  However, two major things became clear (to me) as we talked.  Troy wants to play a Winchester, and Josiah is aiming for a post-apocalyptic Batman.

Of course, that's an over-simplification, but it gets across the idea.  Troy likes the idea of being a sniper and seems really interested in the supernatural undercurrent I have in mind (and generally, when I say the word, I mean supernatural, not Supernatural, but I believe that wasn't clear initially, and has made for some really interesting ideas to pop up).  Josiah is very interested in three major things--quick, agile melee; energy weapons and tinkering.  Okay, so the energy weapons aren't so much Batman, but then, we aren't technically going to be in Gotham.

So, two very different character concepts that work well together.  Ladies, what thought have you given to your characters?

Additionally, it seems Mr. J was busy after bidding us adieu.  Here is a concept sketch for a tinkered weapon he seems to have thought out pretty well.  All this time I was imagining a whaling harpoon (a pretty entertaining notion for a mobile weapon, and probably still viable) than a scuba-diving model.

I also indicated that I plan to incorporate (to some extent) Marvel Comics landmarks, notably the Daily Bugle, the Baxter Building and even Stark Tower (though without that...thing on top).  May even slip the Daily Planet in there somewhere. Note that these are not going to be the same as their comics incarnations--they'll be adjusted to a setting-appropriate tech level, and they were also affected (to varying extent) by the War.

Quick question--is anyone/everyone able to access the dashboard to do new posts?

Blog design

I'm thinking of something grungy, black or dark brown text on lighter background. I just spent two hours making this damn thing:



...but it's way too dark to integrate into the sort of design I'd like. That isn't a problem--I'd happily leave it unused and make something better/different. So, the million-cap question is, do any of you know of good grungy blogger templates? Can any of you make one? I can, but I'm done with PaintShop for tonight, I think. :p
